Watch the Full GameStop Code Name S.T.E.A.M. Demo Right Here

As a huge XCOM fan, I was absolutely thrilled when Nintendo unveiled Code Name S.T.E.A.M., a new 3DS turn-based strategy /action game hybrid from Fire Emblem and Advance Wars developer Intelligent Systems. Mixing visual stylings inspired by the comic art of Jack Kirby with a whimsical steampunk aesthetic and a story that pits Abraham Lincoln, Tiger Lily, Queequeg, and a whole host of other historical and literary figures against a Lovecraftian menace from outer space… what, why are you still reading this? You know you want this. It sounds ridiculous in the best possible way, and it also looks to fill that XCOM-sized hole in the 3DS’s library quite nicely.

Now Nintendo is distributing a pretty robust demo of the game, which you can download from the eShop oh wait… no, you can’t. Because it’s for GameStop employees only. (Insert rollingeyes.gif.) No matter; thanks to our amazing friends, a couple of us at Invisible Gamer managed to get ahold of the demo, and while nobody knows when this is going to actually be available for everyone to try, we do know based on our time with it that it’s one to keep an eye on. Check out our full* playthrough of the demo via the two videos below, and let us know what you think. Could Code Name S.T.E.A.M. be the next great IP from Nintendo?

* Okay, it’s more like 95% percent. We lost a couple minutes of footage at the very end of a mid-demo mission, but don’t worry, all you missed was us running around like fools picking up spare coins.
