Super Smash Bros. For Nintendo 3DS does not hit shelves until Friday in Japan but it seems a couple retailers have broken the street date. On Tuesday, Nintendo of Japan released a demo for Smash on the eShop and in turn, glued thousands of fans to their respective Twitch streams to pick apart all they could from the limited demo. But now that someone has an official retail copy of the game in their hands it has taken less than 24 hours for the complete roster to be revealed.
Recently leaked characters Dark Pit, Dr. Mario, Duck Hunt Dog and Bowser Jr. have now all been confirmed and seen in motion. Bowser Jr. even features alternate costumes as all of the Koopa Kids. We also now know past brawlers Jigglypuff, Ganondorf, R.O.B., Wario, Mr. Game & Watch, Falco and Ness are all officially back too. This recent news does seem to suggest that Ice Climbers, Wolf, Snake and Lucas have all been cut from Smash 3DS and Wii U. Some fans still believe there might be future DLC or that certain characters are possibly being held out as incentive for the Wii U version but Sakurai has confirmed that both the 3DS and Wii U’s rosters will be identical. Right now the roster sits at a notable 51 fighters including all 3 Mii fighters and that, to me, is easily the best Smash roster yet.
Nintendo’s Treehouse has a live-stream scheduled for tomorrow, September 12th, and is set to announce a good deal of news for Smash Bros as well as other games to be released this fall. The stream starts at 10am PT but Smash Bros. news is scheduled to begin at 1pm PT. I’m interested to see if any of these recent leaks will be addressed at all tomorrow or if Nintendo will officially reveal the final roster for Smash themselves. Ultimately I’m betting they wont mention it at all and instead just address the general audience for Smash and possibly announce one new character. Is it October 3rd yet?
