Microsoft has announced the free games that Xbox Live Gold subscribers will be getting next month through its Games With Gold program, and there are a lot more than usual.
As announced last month, April brings with it double the free games for both Xbox One and Xbox 360. Xbox One owners will receive Pool Nation FX and the JRPG-inspired Child of Light, which Amy Brighter called “engaging and exciting” in her glowing review. While Xbox Owners have received two free games a month in the past, one of these games was always a carry-over from the previous month.
Xbox 360 owners still get the better end of the deal, as usual, with Gears of War: Judgment and Terraria both free from April 1st until the 15th. From the 16th until the end of the month, Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag and Army of Two: The Devil’s Cartel will be free for 360 owners. However, it’s important to mention that unlike with PlayStation Plus, there is no cross-buy here: you won’t be able to download Assassin’s Creed IV on your Xbox One.
Much like how the Games With Gold program originally began as a promotional event leading up to the launch of the Xbox One and was subsequently made permanent, I would be very surprised if the program doesn’t give away six games a month from now on; doing so would certainly bring it up to the high standard set by PlayStation Plus.
